Our try.plgd.cloud instance which is available for free uses Auth0 Identity Provider. Example configuration enabling an integration with an external OAuth2.0 Server should contain OAuth2.0 configuration for the device as well as the Dashboard. All required values are part of the global. index.

To configure the OAuth server, it is necessary to enable a redirect URL that permits any redirect within the domain for the web client. The web client utilizes redirects to display pages within the user interface (UI). For instance, when accessing https://example.com/devices/{deviceId} in the UI, the OAuth flow utilizes the opened URL as the redirect_uri. Therefore, it is essential to authorize https://example.com/* as a valid redirect URL to enable access to any subpage within the UI.

By default, the plgd hub Helm chart expect that certificate used by OAuth 2.0 server is signed by the same CA as rest of certificates used by plgd hub services. For including custom authorization CA pool into authorization section, use following configuration attribute:

Important

Please integrate your own PKI for signing certificates used by plgd hub services in a production environment. For detailed instructions on how to do this, refer to this link.

By default, the plgd hub Helm chart issues a self-signed CA certificate, used to sign domain certificates of all exposed services. To encrypt the external communication with the certificates signed by the Let’s Encrypt CAs, create an issuer:

PLGD utilizes four types of service certificates:

  • External Services: (e.g., gRPC Gateway, HTTP Gateway, Certificate Authority) are exposed to the internet.
  • Internal Services: (e.g., MongoDB, NATs, Resource Directory, etc.) communicate internally.
  • CoAP Gateway: Communicates with devices. The Root CA of the certificate must be the same as the Root CA used by the Certificate Authority Signer.
  • Certificate Authority Signer: Used for signing certificates for devices. The Root CA used to sign the certificate is propagated to devices to trust the CoAP Gateway certificate.

In the following steps, it uses one issuer for all service types. For your specific needs, you can separate each type of service by using a different issuer, such as Let’s Encrypt for external services. To customize the Issuer for PLGD Hub services, follow these steps:

Firstly, add the custom CA with the key pair to the Kubernetes secret. For a Cluster Issuer, include it in the cert-manager namespace.

Next, configure the issuer to use the custom CA:

Apply the issuer configuration to the Kubernetes cluster:

Finally, configure the PLGD Hub Helm chart to use the custom CA. Adjust the certificate duration according to your needs:

Apply the Helm values configuration to the Kubernetes cluster.

If you encounter the error message unable to fetch data from the ./well-known endpoint when using the plgd Dashboard, it is likely due to the usage of a self-signed certificate that is not trusted. To resolve this issue, you need to import the plgd certificate authority (CA) into your system. Follow the steps below to obtain the public key:

  1. Open a terminal or command prompt.

  2. Execute the following command:

By running this command, you will retrieve the plgd CA’s public key.
